Media, filming and photography enquiries

We do our best to accommodate broadcast crews, photographers and journalists at special events and, where appropriate, some services. We would appreciate it if you could give us as much notice as possible, particularly for attendance at services.

Durham Cathedral has provided stunning settings for film and TV productions, including the first two Harry Potter films, Avengers: Endgame and documentaries including Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad.

We welcome TV and film requests for large and small productions, documentaries and lifestyle programmes. Please get in touch early if you would like to discuss filming at the cathedral, as our process for granting permission can take some time. Commercial photography on Durham Cathedral property (both inside and outside buildings), including wedding photography, must be agreed by prior arrangement with the cathedral. A permit must be issued and fees apply. Please contact events@durhamcathedral.co.uk for more information.

For safety and security, we have a permissions process for people wishing to fly drones on cathedral grounds, including the cathedral-owned sections of the riverbanks around Durham City. Permission to fly drones needs to be arranged in advance, and fees apply. Please contact media@durhamcathedral.co.uk.
