Who do we lend to?
- Public museums, galleries, libraries and archives
- Educational institutions or others with whom we have a partnership agreement
- Public and charitable bodies, including community organisations
- Commercial organisations for appropriate purposes
- If there is demonstrable public benefit in doing so, we may consider lending to any venue that provides public access and is able to meet our conditions.
What do we lend?
We will consider lending objects from all our collections, unless there are legal or ethical issues that prevent us. Human remains and oral history are subject to further considerations.
All loans from Durham Cathedral’s collections are subject to our conditions of loan. We provide this document after receiving a loan request.
Please note, loans may incur an administration charge.
Notice periods for loans
In order to properly consider all the requests we receive, we ask that organisations give us plenty of notice for loan requests. This notice counts from the moment a final list of objects has been submitted.
- Loans for UK museums and organisations: 12 months notice before the exhibition opening date
- Complex loans for UK museums and organisations, including manuscript and textile loans: 18 months before the exhibition opening date
- For non-UK museums and organisations: 18 months before the exhibition opening date.
